About
What is a “taxpayer?” We take the broadest definition of the term and say it’s anyone who pays money to government in support of that government. These days, that money may be quite obvious — a tax bill. Or it could be rather hidden, like the taxes a landlord builds into the rent he charges his tenants. We believe both renters and property owners are taxpayers. (In Concord, that includes almost everyone.) Both renters and property owners are affected by how taxes are spent. They both deserve a voice.
What is a “guild?” The dictionary tells us a guild is an association of people, created for mutual aid or in pursuit of a common goal. In history, a guild was an association of skilled craftsmen or merchants, often having considerable power. The Taxpayers Guild is a 21st-century version of a guild and little bit of both. We help each other, mostly with that very precious commodity, information. We pursue common goals. We are skillful people. And together we have considerable power.
